A Vision of Universal Financial Health
The Multipliers of Prosperity Story
In 2013, MetLife Foundation made a $200 million, five-year commitment to advancing financial inclusion globally. The commitment to ensure that more of the world’s households and businesses have access to the financial services they need. Affordable. Safe. Convenient. Delivered by providers who are sound and trustworthy, and who treat all customers with respect.
Today, an estimated 2 billion people lack access even to the most basic financial tools. Billions more make do with services that are overpriced, unsafe, hard to use, or otherwise inadequate. MetLife Foundation envisions a world where everyone, including the world’s low-income majority, has access to the full suite of services they need—and knows how to use those services to achieve their goals.
To advance this vision, MetLife Foundation committed $200 million in 2013 to our financial inclusion strategy.
We work with some of the best organizations in the financial inclusion field, both recognized leaders and up-and-coming innovators. Together, MetLife Foundation and our grantee partner organizations are pursuing initiatives to increase people’s Knowledge about financial services, and to enhance the Services that financial institutions design and deliver. We are also committed to sharing the Insights we gain, sponsoring publications, conferences, and other opportunities—including Multipliers of Prosperity—to share lessons learned.
MetLife Foundation is excited by what we are learning and achieving in partnership with our grantee organizations. And we are proud that our financial inclusion agenda has inspired MetLife’s global workforce as never before: in 2015 alone, MetLife employees volunteered more than 72,000 hours of service in the communities where we work.
